Traditionally, prevention and intervention for mental health disorders among young adults (YA) has been largely non-gender specific. To the extent that these types of measures have been gender specific they have focused on conditions prevalent among YA females. Recently, however, research into mental health disorders has identified a number of conditions that are more common, or expressed differently, among YA males than among YA females[1].
ADHD is one of these conditions, and the need to better educate parents and other caregivers about ADHD among young males is clear. It is more commonly diagnosed in adult males compared with adult females; the ratio of males to females is approximately 4:1. More information on young males and ADHD can be found in PMY’s recent podcast on the subject.
This symposium on Young Males and ADHD will cover a range of issues discussed by a panel of ADHD experts. Registration is required. Biographies for presenters for this episode follow.
